We had a very enjoyable stay at U Castellu. The villa is located in a very quiet and relaxing green setting near the beautiful beaches. The view from the terrace is breathtaking. The villa is very functional and well equipped. Very pleasant communication with Adèle whose advice is very useful. We recommend without hesitation.

Wonderful stay!

We will keep a very good memory of our holidays in U Castellu. Your villa is very welcoming and well-suited for 10 people; The panoramic view of the bay of Ajaccio is breathtaking and sandy beach is in the immediate vicinity. Thank you for the welcome we received.

Amazingly Tranquil

Thank-you so much Adèle! Our group of 8 had plenty of space and a wonderful stay. As it was our first time in Corse it was easy to fall in love with this amazing island, but we can't overlook the part that U Castellu played in making it a magical experience. Your responsiveness was not only prompt but thoughtful and with local support from Carole we felt well taken care of. So many great features of the house....plenty of space, excellent amenities, and the terrace which is hard to put into words. Such a relaxing place to stay; many thanks again!

A beautiful setting for our family vacation.

Warm welcome from the local manager. No bad surprises with the house.  What a wonderful time you will have when you choose this villa for your vacation in Corsica. Thank you Adèle !!!

Ideal location near the beach and magnificent views from the terrace.

Our family of 9 spent two very enjoyable weeks in this villa; the primary assets are the pool, proximity to the beach and terrace with a view across the Golfe d’Ajaccio. We, of course, recommend this villa.

Exceeded our expectations

From the time you open the front door and see right through the main living area to the stunning view you know you have found the perfect home. Adele, the owner was so easy to correspond with and Carole her house manager was delightful and made us feel we could ask anything and she would make sure it happened. My husband and I, my son and his young family plus my mother each had our own room and bathroom with room to spare. Turns out the outdoor shower was the biggest hit with the children, and parents were only too happy have them go from the pool to shower at the end of the day for a clean up. The upper balcony terrace has such a lovely view, whether you are having breakfast or an evening dinner, you never tire of looking out. The pool area is extensive with lots of seating and chaises, where you can choose shade beneath the maples or sun poolside. It is a short walk to La Barake, a darling small grocery store/bar/ and out door seating area that has fresh bread delivered each day. It is the answer to everything you may need. Madame and her husband Monsieur Marc are congenial and helpful in every way. There are beach restaurants (one within walking distance), beach bars and pizza places, creperies and activities close enough to find easily and far enough away to make you feel you are in a remote, untouched gem of an area. We fell in love with Corsica and can’t wait to go back. U Castellu was the biggest part of our new found affection for this part of the world. Many thanks to all the wonderful people we met along the way and to Madame Bozza for sharing her lovely home.

Floriana (London, England) August 2017

Wonderful, as usual

"Our group of 8 (3 adults and 5 teen-agers) enjoyed for the third time a lovely two weeks at U Castellu. Everything was in good working order and we could concentrate on relaxing on the terrace and in the garden, enjoying the pool and the lovely view of the bay and exploring the beech and the island. In a way, U Castellu has become almost a "second home" for us. We know that everything (be it in the kitchen, in the rooms or in the laundry room) will be clean and well equipped and we appreciate Adele and her team's efficient and friendly effort."

Alexandra (Cambridge, MA, USA) August 2017

Wonderful location for family vacation

"This was our fourth vacation at U Castellu and we loved it again. The house is perfect for our two families (3 adults + 6 teenagers). It is within walking distance of a little grocery with wonderful bread and a beach that the kids can hang out on by themselves. About an hour from Ajaccio, it is also close enough to enjoy some of the more extreme sports available in the center of the country (Reves des Cimes has a fantastic ziplining park in Vero and canyoning options). We will definitely be back!"

Margaret (Littleton, CO, USA) June 2017

Beautiful views, lovely pool, large property suitable for families and groups

"Charming property that is well stocked and maintained. We enjoyed walking to the beach about 1 block away. Sunsets on the veranda were spectacular while the birdsong woke us in the morning. It was hard to tear ourselves away to go sightseeing."

Victor (Vienne, Autriche) July 2017

Wonderful vacations!

"We were a group of 9 friends from Austria, Norway and France who spent a memorable week in Corsica. The American owner is very helpful and well organized, and the local manager is professional and responsive, although slightly overworked during summer, which is probably unavoidable. It was very clean upon our arrival. We did not find the absence of air conditioning to be a problem. The view from the villa is even better than the photos suggest and the balcony and pool areas are splendid. We enjoyed the proximity of beaches, hiking tours (do not miss the Capu di Muru Tower!) and tennis courts."

Margaret (Denver CO, USA) September 2016

Outstanding view, location, and villa

"The property is well-maintained with an especially well-equipped kitchen. Adele, the owner, provided great instructions, directions, and suggestions in the booklet that arrived before our departure for Europe. The layout of the villa worked well for 8 adults, but others might find the bedroom/bathroom arrangement better for 6 adults and 4 children (twin beds in one room and bunks in another). Being so close to the beach (5 minute walk) was delightful. The main road is not busy so the area is quiet. We spent several blissful evenings on the terrace watching the sunset lingering over late dinners. Everyone took their favorite breakfast beverage outside in the morning to watch the sea change with the breezes. The seating around the pool allowed those who wanted shade to remain covered while the sun worshipers could remain baked all day if they wanted. There is a little shop at the base of the street with great bread and fruit/veggies, but there are larger stores within a few minutes drive. We visited Bonafaccio via ferry, Ajaccio for an evening, and several different beaches. Our guests were charmed with Seraphim in Peri which, although it is a hard drive at night, is our favorite restaurant in the surrounding area."

Simon (Twickenham, England) July 2016

Lovely Villa. Amazing Views.

"We stayed at U Castellu in July with our two children. The villa is as described, very spacious with the most amazing views over the bay, in a beautiful part of Corsica - quiet, but close enough to town / supermarket when you need. It's very much a home, ie not corporate decor, but nicely furnished, with a very well equipped kitchen. The garden is not large as the villa is on a hillside, but very private, and gets the sun most of the day. Following high winds, there were a couple of issues, and Adele was extremely responsive and helpful, and things were remedied quickly. The location is great, and while the local beach is nice, and quiet, we found the beaches further north had nicer sand. There's a few nice local restaurants, especially Mico's down the road, which we were very impressed with. Also, do visit the amazing patisserie about 15 mins north facing the garage, which we only discovered on our last day sadly (or happily for our waistlines). Overall we had a great stay, and would visit again."

We had a wonderful stay at U Castellu!

This house is spacious, very well-appointed and can easily accommodate 10 people (5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, toilet and exterior shower). The pool is very nice, the garden is both shaded and sunny, there is something for everyone ! The location of the house, a few steps from the beach, is extremely practical. Saving the best for last: the terrace with the extraordinary view of the Gulf of Ajaccio, the Sanguinaires islands... and the sunsets, each more beautiful than the next ! We had a wonderful 3 weeks, big thanks to Adele and Carole for their discreet but very effective follow-up!

U Castellu - A Haven of Peace

We are sincerely delighted with our 3 weeks of our summer vacation in the beautiful and charming villa of Adele Bozza. The villa is very well equipped and spacious in a quiet and unspoiled location with a fantastic sea view and breathtaking sunsets from the terrace where we have spent all our evenings admiring the view and a perfect sized swimming pool in the garden area ...moreover it is only a few minutes walking from the local beach where our son is taking his first surfing lessons - and not far from another beautiful beach « Mare e Sole » - we rapidly felt at our ease thanks to both Adele Bozza and Carole (managing the rental on site) with whom contact have been very easy and reassuring from the start. We can only warmly recommend you a stay at U Castellu in Portigliolo !

Wonderful Family Celebration at U Castellu!

We celebrated our 50th anniversary with our two kids their spouses and 5 grandkids. It was perfect!! Great location-walked to the beach every day. Pool was great. Villa was just perfect.

U Castellu is a gem!

Corsica is an island of beauty and U Castellu is a wonderful base from which to discover it. Located in the charming beach town of Portigliolo, about 45 mins south of Ajaccio, the villa features stunning views of mountains and sea, outdoor living with a wrap around terrace, and outdoor pool, shower and garden, a well appointed kitchen, attractive master suite and a functional set of rooms that accommodates a small or large group looking for a base from which to discover southern Corsica and all within walking distance to the beach! Wow! We highly recommend this property.
It is always a pleasure to share our Corsican home with families who appreciate the amazing beauty of this Mediterranean island - who love to explore the varied beaches on the southwest side of the island as well as the central mountain ranges.  I agree that U Castellu is a welcoming base for exploration as well as a place for catching sun by our private pool or resting on our terrace to enjoy the view across the Golfe d'Ajaccio and spectacular sunsets.  We hope this French-American family returns again.
Thank you!
Adele

A very beautiful property, great location and very enjoyable.

The villa is well-equipped and comfortable with a magnificent view. The bedrooms are a good size and well-designed with 3 bathrooms. The swimming pool and the nearby sea (5 min walk to the beach) make it ideal for a family summer vacation. We were two families with teenagers; we recommend this villa.

A week in Paradise that words cannot describe!

Upon arriving at U Castellu, we immediately fell in love with this beautiful five bedroom villa. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with spectacular panoramic views of the Gulf of Ajaccio and the mountains of Corsica. From the stunning and unobstructed view from the terrace, you can see the local beach (which is a 5 minute walk) and the scenic winding coastline. As we continued our tour of the villa we entered the spacious master bedroom which is located on the top floor and shares the same great views as the terrace. The master also has its own private bath. Down a flight of stairs there were four more good-sized bedrooms - each bedroom has french doors that lead out to the garden and lovely pool. Two good sized baths, and a laundry room complete the bottom floor. Coming back upstairs, we realized just how spacious the living room is with a cozy fireplace and cathedral ceiling. We did not notice this when we first walked in because we were overcome with the views. The kitchen is very functional with all of the amenities you have at home. The biggest complement to the kitchen is the built-in grill on the terrace. We barbequed chicken, fresh fish and steak while we were there and sat out on the terrace in the large eating area for breakfast, lunch and dinner, enjoying the gorgeous views. As we walked outside to stick our feet in the pool we found an outdoor shower that ended up to be a primary source of showering even the though the showers inside were updated and quite attractive. This villa is handsomely decorated and impeccably clean and lacks nothing. Our only regret was that we had plans to continue our tour of France and could not stay longer. If you are looking for a romantic get-away or a family vacation for 10, U Castellu will not disappoint! Thank you for a most enjoyable stay.

The perfect vacation for all of us!

Leaving U Castellu in good order was the least we could do ;-) I have finally found the time to write a short – but very positive - review. We – a party of five adults and two children – all agree that this place is the most beautiful we have ever stayed in. The views are totally stunning and we miss it a lot. :-) The house itself was just perfect. Everything worked very well. Excellent location. The kids – in particular – loved the pool. Great contact with Carole (the housekeeper) - she is so positive and nice. All in all - the perfect vacation for all of us! We would love to return again to this Corsican peace of heaven :-) Warmest regards from all of us.

Beautiful property with a breath-taking view

Six guests from around the U.S. met in Corsica to celebrate a milestone birthday. We cannot wait to go back! We selected U Castellu because of its location and the generous amenities at the villa. The week was spent swimming, shopping for local ingredients for our meals, hiking, walking, talking, and enjoying fine Corsican wines. The sunsets were memorable, and the villa is clean and full of every modern convenience needed to make for a perfect vacation. Our questions were answered by owner Adele prior to our arrival so that our stay was comfortable and inspiring. We ate at several local restaurants and enjoyed fresh seafood every day. I suggest side trips to Bonifacio (ancient walled city) and Bastia, as well as Napolean's home in Ajaccio. The entire island is rich with history and beautiful people who welcomed us.

Chris (Cornwall, England) May 2016

U Castella was a delight.

"The listing was very accurate and extremely clean and tidy. Adele was absolutely great; she answered all of our questions quickly accurately and efficiently. The facilities were perfect, with plenty of space for our party of 9. The balcony leading from the lounge was a magnificent space to sit and eat or relax with superb views into the bay and beyond. Wonderful sunsets too! The pool was especially popular and its safety alarm was appreciated. We found the villa catered for all our needs. We tended to shop when out, and as we enjoyed cooking in the well equipped kitchen, this meant that we didn't actually try any restaurants! We did however use the pizza takeaway a few minutes drive towards Porticcio. The nearby beaches were quiet and child friendly with silver sand and turquoise sea. We would not hesitate to recommend U Castellu."

Wonderful location, great property and a very friendly owner. Perfect for a large family vacation.

I was looking for a place which would accommodate my family from my 80 years old father to my 10 years old son. This was the perfect solution. The house is spacious, well-equipped, the teenager could stay connected, the kitchen was perfect to cook for 8, the kids could play in the pool or walk to the beach. The location is both off the main traffic and close enough to have access to all shops and amenities. It is also close enough to be a base for day trip and cover most of South Corsica. The guidebook that the owner provides is very comprehensive and includes good suggestions for dining out. To top it, the owner is extremely responsive and very friendly. This was just the perfect solution and I definitely will come back.

Views you'll remember the whole year

"This was the third time that my family and our friends (8 people total, of which 5 are children, including 4 15+ teens) stayed at U Castellu and it felt like coming home. The house is just the right size for our group (we could even fit in an extra kid if we had one), and the kitchen is well equipped. We had long, languorous dinners on the terrace every evening, watching the sun go down and the geckos come out. The house itself is comfortable and breezy; it never gets too hot because of the location up on the cliff. The fact that the kids can walk alone down to the beach or the little shop for croissants is a big bonus for us, as it means adults can stay up at the house and read, lounge by the wonderful pool, or (alas) work. From U Castellu we often venture out in different directions. Filitosa and Sartene can be reached in a couple hours in the south, and Ajaccio is about an hour or so north. There are lots of outdoor activities (e.g. an excellent zipline park and canyoning) in the Forest of Vero, about 20 minutes north of Ajaccio. We'll keep our memories alive over the long Boston winter and hope to go back next year."

John (Rochester, England) May 2016

A fantastic holiday home - life there was a joy.

"This is a wonderful holiday home. It has ample room and is well appointed with all the things you'd ever need. A great barbecue. Good sized rooms. A really nice pool. And of course the views are just stunning with some of the best sunsets I've ever seen."

Lynn (Savannah, GA, USA) June 2016

Awesome!

"U Castellu… repeat! What a thrill to be able to return to U Castellu! My first visit several years ago was amazing and shared with old and new friends. My second visit this month was nothing but spectacular and every bit as memorable. Corsica is a wonderful, friendly little island in the Mediterranean surrounded by the most beautiful blue water you have ever seen. The island’s mountains and beaches come together for magnificent views. The white cliffs of Bonifacio and the Old Harbor section of Ajaccio are day trips from the Villa U Castellu and worth every hairpin curve getting there. We “cooked” at home several nights in a gourmet kitchen with groceries from the local markets. We also enjoyed nearby restaurants which were delectable and delicious, not to mention, right on the water! We so enjoyed our stay in U Castellu. The villa has the most amazing terrace overlooking the sea (and backyard pool) with beaches very close-by. The villa is so well equipped that we didn’t want for anything and if we had, Adele, the owner, was easily in touch by email, etc., and the caretakers were right next door! This is the perfect house for large groups and the thrill of throwing open the shutters each morning to greet the sun is the best! If you are thinking about Corsica (and you should be), think about U Castellu. Beautiful home, fantastic location, great owner and maybe the best time you have ever had!"

Linda (Atlanta, GA USA) June 2016

A Very Peaceful Paradise!

"What a comfortable home with a view that is out of this world! I was part of a group of 7 that were fortunate to spend one week at this well-equipped villa. We spent the majority of our waking time on the covered balcony enjoying the birds singing, the green hillsides and the awesome view of the Mediterranean. The large table accommodates many more than 7; it was a great place for our breakfast and dinners. The breeze from the sea is most refreshing. It was great to have the swimming pool but the swimming season was still a little too cold for me. There are plenty of lounge chairs and it too is a great place to gather. The owner went to a great deal of trouble to write directions for just about everything in the villa. I did a lousy job of reading them as many of my issues would have been simply explained. Read the instructions!!! (Especially for the pool alarm and the washer and dryer!!) It is a beautiful island with kind, friendly Corsicans and I would love to go back tomorrow! Thank you to the owner for providing such a wonderful dream stay! The birds sing ALL DAY long! I loved it!"

MJ (Atlanta, GA, USA) July 2017

Did I mention Amazing?!?

"AMAZING!! AMAZING!! AMAZING!!...Did I mention Amazing?! Had the pleasure of an entire week at U Castellu. Words simply can't describe the breathtaking views from the villa. The drive from the Ajaccio airport was relatively short yet you felt like you were hundreds of miles away. The proximity to many of the islands top site seeing spots was fabulous. We ventured out to Bonifaccio, Corte, & Porticcio. The mornings were bright and pleasant temperatures all day. VERY low humidity which was an added bonus. Seven of us stayed and we never once felt cramped or on top of each other...plenty of room to enjoy the company of our group or just enjoy some relaxing moments alone. The rooms were very accommodating and the kitchen well stocked. Beach towels and umbrella were provided for the very short and easy walk to the most spectacular beach that was nearly secluded every time we went. Pure paradise. There were several upscale restaurants nearby as well as homemade pizza and even a small beach shack right at our beach with ice cold spirits and fresh panini sandwiches. Not to mention at the bottom of the street was a local store serving fresh baked croissants each morning! But get there early, they go fast! My husband and I have had the pleasure of traveling all over the world and can truly say this is hands down one of the MOST spectacular places we have ever had the pleasure to stay!"

Mary (Arlington, MA, USA) May 2016

Vacation of a life time

"Where do I start. The location is private but accessible to the beach and wonderful eating opportunities within a short walk. The view from the terrace is so wonderful you don't want to leave the property. We enjoyed the pool, the large terrace, the very well equipped kitchen, the elegant bathrooms, the so comfortable beds. There were 6 of us and still a feeling of quiet and spaciousness when all were home. Life in corsica is both vital and casual. I will go back to U Castellu to explore more of this enchanting island and for the perfect accommodation home base."

Caroline (Oxford, England) August 2015

Views and villa just wonderful

"U Castellu is the most perfect villa for a wonderful holiday. The views over the bay with the mountains behind are outstanding. The beach with crystal clear water is walking distance from the villa and has a little friendly sailing school with boats to hire. The villa feels like a much loved, well used home and is very comfortable and clean. The many different areas to sit either in the shade or in the sun works really well for large parties giving everyone space to chill. The owner could not be more helpful and efficient. We honestly had one of the best family holidays. The island is beautiful and the mountain walking is a challenge even for the very fittest. I would thoroughly recommend this villa."

Alban (Neuilly sur Seine, France) August 2015

Fantastic place with a wonderful view

"We spent 2 wonderful weeks in this house with a fantastic view on the Ajaccio bay. Every morning it was a pleasure to have breakfast in face of the sea. The beach is really nearby the house (less than 5 minutes walk), our children spent lot of time in the swimming pool which is very well-maintained (we had technical problem after a storm which has been fixed in 24 hours). On top of this the owner is very nice and pay attention to her tenants. Do not hesitate to rent this house, you will not be disappointed."

Jan (London, England) June 2015

The most wonderful location on the entire island!

"It is no mistake to say that in U Castellu, the owner Adele, has probably found the most wonderful location for a house on the entire island! Of all the places we visited, not once did we say "I wish U Castellu were here instead"!! It is secluded without being isolated and is a wonderfully welcoming place to return home to after a day on the beach or sightseeing. The property benefits from an excellent elevated position which provides spectacular views across Portigliolo bay towards Ajaccio and the sunsets from the terrace are sensational. Its small breakfast terrace and large main terrace (enjoined) mean that you can eat outside in the shade or sun at whatever time of day you choose. If you are looking for a choice of 20 bars within walking distance then this place is not for you, but the house is well sited to get to all the less-explored southerly beaches and most of the better quality restaurants are only 10-15 mins away in the car. Chez Francis is in the most divine location and serves awesome fresh fish and shellfish...don't be put off by the (very!) winding dirt track road to get there....it is worth every white knuckle bend! Likewise be sure to check out the mussels at Chez Alain at Agosta Plage where for €14 you have an absolutely knockout selection of moules frites! Plage d'Argent is also a gorgeous romantic spot with a fabulous view over the bay and an excellent menu. The local restaurateurs at Chez Mico (a 5 minute stroll away) are very friendly and provide a very decent meal, with good choices of dish, including simply prepared fresh fish. Although perhaps not the most modern property U Castellu lacks for absolutely nothing, is kept very clean and well maintained and has a lovely sheltered garden, a great pool and garden furniture to spare!! The well equipped kitchen has all you need to prepare your own meals, the living room furniture is super comfortable to sink into and read in the evenings, and there are even games to play if you are feeling competitive! Adele is incredibly helpful and was ever willing to answer even our most mundane questions and was determined to do everything she could to ensure that we enjoyed our stay to the utmost. Everything in the house book was up to date and clearly Adele had spared no effort to ensure that her guests had access to as much local info as possible. I would recommend U Castellu unhesitatingly and would gladly return. We had a simply stunning holiday - thank you Adele!!"

Each time back it just gets better

"Fantastic vacation. The villa was everything you could expect. Amenities, views etc. all incredible. All information supplied by the owner was accurate and very helpful. This was our second stay at U Castellu and the fact that we will return again is a true testament to the quality of the property. Since our first stay in 2013 much of the outdoor furniture has been replaced with new. There is no shortage of attention to detail at his property. From the local beach, five minute walk from villa, to 1/2 and day trips to beaches along the coast the island never disappoints."

Anders (Virium, Denmark) July 2014

Fantastic place :-)

"This is now the last day on Corsica for this time, but we are sure we will come back. We have all enjoyed it so much here. Portigliolo and U Castellu is simply fantastic. Everything has been working perfect and the house has fully lived up to our expectations. We have been using the pool, swimming and snorkeling in the sea and cycling in the hills around Portigliolo. We also visited Iles Sanguinaires and tried canyoning in La Richiusa. We can only recommend this place."

Philip (As, Sweden) July 2014

Fantastic house with wonderful views and amenities

"What a Lovely house. We had a wonderful week and were sad to leave. It was nice to enjoy the peace and quiet away from any resorts. The kids especially enjoyed hiring kayaks on the beach and naturally the pool. We would love to come back another time and no doubt will be getting in contact again. Thanks once again."
